Peter Høeg

“I feel the same way about solitude as some people feel about the blessing of the church. It’s the light of grace for me. I never close my door behind me without the awareness that I am carrying out an act of mercy toward myself.”

Peter Høeg, Smilla’s Sense of Snow

This is why I go on writing retreats. Otherwise, I’d likely never get anything done. When your life is filled with distractions that burst through the door, yell across the house, or don’t answer their cell phone as the sun is setting and they were supposed to be home hours ago…retreats are necessary. Forget all that “make space for your writing” crap. I’ve got to get out of town, which is a lot cheaper than sending the rest of my family somewhere. And, truth be told, much more relaxing.

~ On retreat, obviously.
