“Read over your compositions, and when you meet a
passage which you think is particularly
fine, strike it out.”
This is soooo counter-intuitive until you’ve written for awhile. In the beginning, I wouldn’t have gotten it. Now, after 3 1/2 years, I have come face to face with many passages which are particularly fine BUT do not serve the story.
At first, you cut and paste them into a document, saving them for insertion somewhere else in the story…then, when that moment never comes, you learn how to simply let go.
