Walter Benn Michaels is a professor of English at the University of Illinois, Chicago. He taught previously at Berkeley and at the Johns Hopkins University. He’s the author of several scholarly books on American literature and photography but has also written about politics in places like The New York Times, the Nation and le Monde.
